What About The 'Legends'?

I’ve been thinking...

Thinking Martin Luther King, thinking Benjamin Franklin (the guy who discovered electricity), thinking the Wright brothers (the guys who created the first successful airplane),Robert Kahn and Vint Cerf (the guys who developed the internet), thinking Rosa Parks...I’ve been thinking Nelson Mandela I’ve been thinking.

I haven’t gotten to know any of these personalities personally to know if they were Christian, if they believed in God and if they did, what their ministries on earth were.

But I think to myself, “God I don’t know if they’ve ever won people over into Your Kingdom but, did you just send them to earth to accomplish what they did for the rest of us your children? Because they’re not at all bad things, they’re great exploits in fact, they just weren’t necessarily soul winning orientated I guess, but they did deliver us into greater advantage and for people like Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela, into great deliverance and freedom.”

The Bible states in black and white what God will ask of us when we appear before the judgment seat of Christ in Heaven. But I’m also wondering “What about these great men and what they’ve done for mankind? Is the Word of God really 'Yea and Amen' and that's that?”

Like I said it’s clear. Jesus asked us to do one thing before He ascended to The Father, and that was to make disciples of Him all around the world. (Matthew 28:19)

Does that mean these great men don’t get anything on that day?

I had a discussion with myself on the topic. God’s blessings are innumerable for such people and His Word makes it clear that such acts of kindness don’t go unseen.

5 Scriptures that prove God rewards good deeds:

1. Galatians 6:9

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

2. Hebrews 10:24

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,

3. Luke 6:38

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

4. Proverbs 3:3-4

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.

5. James 1:12

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

But then I reminded myself that when we appear before the judgement seat of Christ, God is gonna ask us what we did with the ministry of reconciliation He placed in our hands; the talents and gifts He deposited in our hearts to aid the ministry that each and everyone of us has. How did we use those things to accomplish what Christ commissioned us with before He ascended?

So when Mr King and Mr Mandela came through for the coloured race with such influence, boldness and courage to do so, I think to myself,

“Surely they recognised that God did that right? Surely they recognised that God is used them to deliver coloured people out of this hatred? Right? Surely they recognised it was The Lord’s will and then communicated that to the people they helped and made an altar call right? Surely they recognised this was the gift God deposited in them and recognised it was ministry? Right?”

Surely the Wright brothers recognised that it was God who deposited in them the wisdom to create a heavy craft that then suddenly takes flight in the air and defeats the law of gravity right? Surely they recognised that that couldn’t have been of their own wisdom or understanding; that they were able to come up with this finished product? Right? Surely they would have recognised it was God who was making a way for His children to travel across the world to preach this gospel He asked them to preach? Surely they recognised it was Ministry God placed into their hearts to teach others also and be recruits of The Kingdom while they were at it right? I mean surely...

Surely Robert Kahn and Vint Cerf recognised that God deposited in them the wisdom of creating the internet so that the Gospel could reach different parts of the world without us having to physically go to these places right? Surely they’d recognised they couldn’t have come up with this all by themselves right? Surely they recognised it was Ministry right? Surely they couldn't have taken the glory for themselves right? I mean surely...

Surely Ms Rosa Parks knew that she was about to be the deliverance for a lot of God’s future coloured kingdom women. Surely after she made the decision to stand her ground, say "NO!" and remain seated with all that courage, she recognised the ministry God had placed in her heart for coloured women. Surely she recognised that it wasn’t of her own strength or competence? Surely she recognised it wasn't of her own ability to take the stand and decision she did to raise coloured women in those days of darkness and to take them for God. I mean come onnnn! Surely...

And of course, without you Mr Franklin; the man God chose, specially hand-picked and graced, to give the world electricity, surely you knew it was The Lord who gave you the wisdom, the platform, to bless the world with one of its biggest sources...

But the question is ladies and gentlemen, apart from what you did to move the world forward with these gifts of wisdom and talent, how did you use these to make it count in The Kingdom?

How many people will be your trophies before The Father on that day?

Gentlemen, Ms Parks, we're eternally grateful for what you gave us.
