Dami Abajingin

Founder & Editor-in-chief of Valour Magazine

1. Okay, so could you start off by telling us a bit about yourself?

My name is Dami Abajingin, I’m the Founder and Editor-in-chief of Valour Magazine. I’m a 26-year-old proud Londoner; but as you may (or may not) be able to tell, I’m of Nigerian descent. I studied Politics at the University of Manchester, I then went on to do a NCTJ post-graduate course in Magazine Journalism.

2. Could you tell us about Valour Magazine and why you started the magazine?

I was initially blessed with the idea for Valour Magazine in November 2013 but Valour Magazine was officially unveiled to the world in April 2015. Valour was started to celebrate millennial Christian women and also to present the gospel in a dynamic way. Our aim is to edify, entertain and also evangelise through the content on our app and website.

3. So what inspires your content?

The Valour Team and I regularly have meetings where we pray and discuss content collectively. A lot of the ideas are birthed from our experiences and those of the wonderful women around us. We are driven to produce content which explores issues that are important to young Christian women which are not often addressed in church such as how do you couple being a Christian and being ‘woke’, the importance of feminism, navigating singlehood, embracing your sensuality in marriage and so much more.

4. I like the article, "On Trusting The Process". I liked the part where it says, "The truth is that you can be strong and still be hurt. Being strong is not the absence of pain, strength is choosing to trust the process in the midst of the pain." Why did you decide to have that article published?

That’s one of my favourite articles on the website! It was written by the talented Debra Oludare (Valour Magazine’s Fashion X Beauty Editor). As Christians it’s important to know that all things work together for our good (Romans 8:28). At times, the ‘things’ in question can include the inconvenient and the uncomfortable which, let’s be real does not always feel great. But the beautiful thing is we do not walk by how we feel but by faith, when we go through challenges it’s an opportunity for our faith to be strengthened (James 1:2). The process cements our faith in God’s Word, God’s promises and in the fact that His plans for us are always good.

5. What has been the most inspiring testimonial you've received as a result of your magazine?

One of my closest friends shared Valour with a colleague who had recently become a Christian and it helped her answer lots of practical questions about Christianity which she says strengthened her faith. I remember the day my friend told me, I was so overwhelmed and just so grateful to God for enabling Valour to play a role in this young woman’s burgeoning walk with the Lord.

6. What's your advice/word of encouragement for other Christian content creators out there?

Hebrews 12:2 (AMP) is one of my favourite Scriptures of all times. It talks about looking away from all that will distract us but keeping our eyes on Jesus. So my advice is always keep why you do what you do and Who you do it for at the centre.

7. Should we be expecting anything from you in the near future?

Look out for Issue 5!
